Odds are, you’ve experienced a “runner’s high” at some point, which is the release of endorphins that make you feel good. When we exercise, our bodies respond by producing this sense of euphoria, making us feel like we’re on cloud nine. The great thing about this is that it only takes a moderate amount of exercise to feel the runner’s high, which is anxiety’s kryptonite. Not only that, but it also elevates your mood, alleviating feelings of hopelessness and depression.
Studies show that just 20-30 minutes of moderate cardio can greatly improve your mood and that this effect can last for up to 12 hours after the workout. For people who suffer from social anxiety, group fitness classes have also proven to have a significant impact on mental health. Natural Stress Relief & Sleep Aid
The great thing about exercise is that it’s a great way to burn off some steam, literally. These days, people are more stressed than ever, which leads to higher rates of anxiety and depression. Thankfully, not everyone has to turn to medications — exercise is a natural stress reliever that kicks stress to the curb! The hardest part is finding the motivation to work out, but once you start, the rest is easy. After a 30-minute circuit training session at the gym or a jog around the block, you’ll notice your stress levels dropping and your mood elevating.
Exercising also helps you sleep better, partly due to reduced stress. When you work out, your body temperature increases and your circadian rhythm (your internal clock) becomes more balanced, resulting in better quality sleep. Don’t do a killer full-body workout too close to bedtime though, as many people find themselves to be more alert for an hour or two after exercising.

Studies also show that exercise has lots of benefits for brain function as well, including enhanced memory and learning capabilities.
